In Angola, interest rate decisions are taken by The National Bank of Angola (Banco Nacional de Angola). On May 24th 2018, the central bank unified the marginal lending facility rate and the basic interest rate, creating the BNA Rate (Taxa BNA) which became the new benchmark interest rate. Until then, the key rate was the Taxa Básica de Juro (Taxa BNA) and until October 2011 the official interest rate was the Discount Rate (Taxa de Redesconto).
Latest Updates
Angola's central bank left the key interest rate steady at 19.5% during its first monetary meeting of 2025, keeping borrowing costs at their highest level since December 2022. This is the fourth consecutive meeting with no changes to the benchmark rate, as inflation continues its downward trend. However, the elevated rate still requires a cautious monetary policy to safeguard progress and ensure long-term objectives are met. The annual inflation rate in Angola slowed for the fifth month to a nine-month low of 27.50% in December 2024 from 28.41% in November.
