Chile's trade surplus surged to $1,450 million in October 2024, up from $703 million in the corresponding period of the previous year, though below market forecasts of $1,540 million. Exports soared by 10.1% over a year ago to a nine-month high of $8,588 million, buoyed by higher shipments of mining products (+14.8%), of which copper (+25.9%); manufactured products (+15.3%) and, to a lesser extent, agriculture, forestry & fishing (+2.5%). Meanwhile, imports rose by only 0.6% to $7,139 million, as increased demand for consumer goods (+8.1%) and capital goods (+9.6%) was tempered by a 4.6% drop in intermediate goods.
