Cyprus's annual inflation rate edged down to 2.5% in January 2025, from December’s six-month high of 2.6%. Price growth slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.8% vs 7.6% in December 2024), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2% vs 2.2%), recreation & culture (2.8% vs 2.9%), education (3.7% vs 3.8%), and restaurants & hotels (4.1% vs 4.4%). At the same time, costs continued to drop for clothing & footwear (-2.7% vs -2.6%) and furnishings, household equipment & supplies (-0.6% vs -0.2%). In contrast, prices increased for housing & utilities (1.8% vs 1.5%) and transport (3.3% vs 1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased by 1.3% in January, following a 0.1% rise in December.
