Consumer prices in Ecuador rebounded by 0.45 percent year-on-year in July of 2021, following twelve consecutive months of deflation. It was the fastest increase in consumer prices since May of 2020. Main upward pressure came from prices of transport (5.82 percent vs 3.71 percent in June) and health (3.26 percent vs 2.97 percent). Meantime, deflation slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.85 percent vs -3.47 percent); restaurants & hotels (-0.16 percent vs -1.56 percent); education (-1.19 percent vs -1.30 percent); and miscellaneous goods & services (-1.02 percent vs -2.35 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices picked up 0.53 percent, after a 0.18 percent drop in June.
