The trade deficit in Estonia widened to EUR 208 million in September 2024, up from EUR 189 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports advanced by 2% year-on-year to EUR 1,517 million, with sales rising to non-EU countries (21%), while falling to EU countries (-4%). Among commodities, shipments were particularly up for agricultural products & food preparations (17%), electrical equipment (18%), and optical, measuring, precision instruments (28%). Meanwhile, imports rose 3% to EUR 1,725 million, boosted by higher purchases from non-EU countries (25%). Among commodities, imports increased for raw materials and products of the chemical industry (23%), electrical equipment (15%), and means of transport (14%). For the first nine months of the year, the country’s trade deficit increased to EUR 2,390 million from EUR 2,183 million in the corresponding period a year earlier.
