Greece reports regular trade deficits due to high volume of imports. Main imports are mineral fuels, machinery and transport equipment and chemicals. In recent years, the biggest trade deficits were recorded with Russia, Germany, China, Italy and France. Greece records trade surpluses with Turkey, Cyprus, United States, Algeria and United Arab Emirates.

Greece's trade deficit widened to EUR 3.2 billion in November 2024 from EUR 2.7 billion in the same month last year, as exports dropped while imports increased. Exports declined 6.5% year-on-year to EUR 4 billion, attributed to lower sales to third countries (-14.3%), whereas exports to the EU rose slightly (0.3%). Meanwhile, imports grew 3.2% to EUR 7.2 billion, driven by increased purchases from the third countries (4.3%) and the EU (2.2%). Considering the first eleven months of the year, the country's trade deficit expanded to EUR 31.5 billion from EUR 28.7 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year, with exports falling 3% while imports rising 1.9%.
