Indonesia posted a trade surplus of USD 4.9 billion in May 2025, based on preliminary customs data, the finance minister said on Tuesday. The latest reading would mark the largest trade surplus since July 2024, with exports reaching USD 25.3 billion and imports at USD 20.4 billion. Statistics Indonesia is scheduled to release the final data on July 1. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani noted that while the trade figures appear strong, trade tensions and slowing global growth have weighed on exports and will likely impact growth in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Strong growth was recorded in May’s exports of agricultural products and manufactured goods, though there was a steep decline in shipments of mining products, she added. The country posted a trade surplus of USD 0.15 billion in April 2025, the smallest since April 2020, mainly due to a 21.8% surge in imports. In May 2024, the trade balance registered a surplus of USD 2.9 billion.
