Kazakhstan is the largest economy in Central Asia. The services sector is the most important and accounts for 54 percent of total GDP. The biggest segments within services are: wholesale and retail trade and repairs of motor vehicles and motorcycles (15 percent of total GDP); transport, warehousing, information and communication (10 percent); real estate (9 percent) and professional, scientific, technical, administrative and support services (7 percent). Industry contributes 34 percent of the wealth; construction 7 percent and agriculture, forestry and fishing 5 percent.

Kazakhstan's GDP expanded by 4.1% in the first nine months of 2024, slowing from a 4.9% growth in the same period of the previous year. Output of goods increased 5%, driven by growth in agriculture, forestry and fishing (+11.4%), manufacturing (+4.8%), electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply (+5.5%) and construction (+10.1%). Meanwhile, services output grew 4%, led by higher activity in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+6.3%), transportation & storage (+8%), information & communication (+6.4%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+3.5%). The shares of production of goods and production of services in GDP in January-September 2024 were 36.4% and 56.5%, respectively.
