The consumer confidence indicator in the Netherlands rose to -21 in September 2024, up from -24 in the previous two months, but it remains below the twenty-year average of -10. Consumers were less pessimistic about the general economic situation over the past 12 months (-45 vs to -51 in August) and in the next 12 months (-29 vs to -33). Views on the household’s financial situation also improved, with perceptions over the previous 12 months at -9 (vs -7) and optimism for the coming 12 months rising to 4 (vs 1). Additionally, willingness to buy improved (-11 vs -13), and consumers found the timing for making large purchases less unfavorable (-29 vs -31).
