Romania’s trade deficit widened to EUR 2.84 billion in March 2025 from EUR 2.50 billion in the same month of the previous year. Imports rose 8% year-on-year to a five-month high of EUR 11.29 billion, driven by higher purchases from both EU countries (+6.4%) and non-EU countries (+12.7%). Meanwhile, exports increased at a slower pace of 6.3% to EUR 8.45 billion, with sales to the EU up 4.7% and to non-EU countries up 10.7%. In the first three months of 2025, the trade deficit widened to EUR 8.45 billion, compared to EUR 6.66 billion in the same period last year, as exports grew by 2.7% while imports rose more sharply by 8.1%.
