Slovakia’s trade surplus narrowed to EUR 406.4 million in March 2025 from EUR 503.8 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, as imports grew faster than exports. Imports increased by 13.1% year-on-year to EUR 9,383.2 million, driven largely by increased purchases of machinery and transport equipment (16.4%). Imports from the EU rose by more than 10%, while those from non-EU countries jumped by 19%. Meanwhile, exports grew by 11.3% to EUR 9,789.7 million, also led by machinery and transport equipment, which saw the highest annual growth since August 2023 at 12.1%. Exports to the EU increased by over 6%, while those to non-EU countries climbed by almost 31%. For the first quarter of the year, the country’s trade surplus fell sharply to EUR 379 million from EUR 1,681.2 million in the same month last year.
