Gross foreign exchange reserves in South Africa rose to $66.264 billion in February 2025, the largest value since records began in 1998, from $65.876 billion in the previous month. This was driven by increases in gold reserves ($11.545 billion vs $11.315 billion), SDR holdings ($6.229 billion vs $6.185 billion), and foreign currency reserves ($48.490 billion vs $48.376 billion). Additionally, the forward position, representing the central bank's unsettled or swap transactions, rose slightly to $0.531 billion in February from $0.529 billion in the prior month.
