Spain's trade gap widened to EUR 4.12 billion in December 2024 from EUR 3.44 billion in the same month last year, as imports rose faster than exports. Imports rose by 4.7% year-on-year to EUR 33.86 billion, as higher purchases of equipment goods (4.2%), chemical goods (11.9%), food, beverages & tobacco (8.4%) and manufactured consumer goods (9.4%) more than offset lower imports of energy products (-9.1%). Meanwhile, exports increased by 2.7% to EUR 29.74 billion, primarily due to shipments of equipment goods (5.3%), food, beverages & tobacco (3.1%) and chemical products (22.8%). For 2024, the trade deficit narrowed to EUR 40.3 billion from EUR 40.6 billion, with exports increasing 0.2% and imports up 0.1%
