Consumer prices in Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo, decreased by 0.6% year-on-year in May 2025, easing slightly from 0.7% drop in the previous month. This marked the tenth consecutive month of deflation, though the softest drop in nine months, as prices moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.3% v 5.2%). Moreover, price declines eased for both housing and utilities (-7.9% vs -8.8%) and transportation (-5.5% vs -6.5%), while prices for furnishing and equipment remained the same (-0.6%). In contrast, prices for clothing and footwear (3.9% vs 3.7%) and restaurants and hotels (1.4% vs 0.4%) increased at a faster pace. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.9% in May from 0.8% in April.
