Taiwan’s trade surplus narrowed to USD 6.55 billion in February 2025 from USD 7.9 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, below market expectations of USD 7.85 billion. Imports surged by 47.8% year-on-year to USD 34.76 billion, primarily attributed to higher purchases of all leading import commodities, including information, communication and audio-video products (149.2%), machinery (113.8%), and parts of electronic products (70.2%). Meanwhile, exports soared by 31.5% from a year earlier to USD 41.3 billion, mainly due to increased sales of all leading export commodities, particularly information, communication and audio-video products (65.5%), parts of electronic products (24.6), and mineral products (22.4%). Considering the first two months of 2025, the country’s trade surplus was recorded at USD 16.5 billion, a 58.8% higher compared to the previous year, with exports rising 16.8% and imports increasing by 9.3%.
