The United Kingdom’s unemployment rate stood at 4.7% in the three months to June 2025, unchanged from the previous period as the market expected. The reading remained at its highest level since the three months ending July 2021, as the number of people unemployed for between 6 and 12 months and for over 12 months increased compared to the prior period. On an annual basis, the number of people unemployed for up to 6 months, between 6 and 12 months, and over 12 months all rose. Meanwhile, the number of employed individuals climbed by 238 thousand to 34.21 million, the highest since September 2024, driven by gains in full-time employment. The number of people holding second jobs also increased, now accounting for 3.9% of all employed individuals. Lastly, the economic inactivity rate was unchanged at 21%.
