Average hourly earnings for all employees on US private nonfarm payrolls increased by 13 cents, or 0.4%, over a month to $35.36 in September 2024, surpassing market forecasts of a 0.3% rise and following a 0.5% advance in the prior month. In September, average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees increased by 8 cents, or 0.3%, to $30.33. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4.0% in September, the most in four months, after a revised 3.9% rise in August and topping market estimates of a 3.8% gain.
