The Chicago Fed National Activity Index for the US increased to 0.15 in December 2024, the highest reading in seven months, compared to an upwardly revised -0.01 in November. The reading showed economic growth increased in December, with production-related indicators contributing 0.19 (vs +0.03 in November) and employment-related indicators adding (vs unchanged). In contrast, the sales, orders, and inventories category's contribution was –0.02 (vs -0.05 in November) and the personal consumption and housing category's contribution was –0.02 (vs –0.01). Meanwhile, the index's three-month moving average, CFNAI-MA3, increased to –0.13 in December from –0.26 in November.
