US crude inventories fell by 3.831 million barrels to 419.1 million barrels in the week ended January 2, 2026, compared with market expectations for a 1.1 million barrel increase. On the other hand, crude stocks at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub rose by 728 thousand barrels in the week. Also, gasoline stocks rose by 7.702 million barrels in the week to 242 million barrels, above forecasts for a 2.2 million-barrel build. Distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, rose by 5.594 million barrels in the week to 129.3 million barrels, versus expectations for a 2.1 million-barrel rise.
