Housing stars in the United States surged by 15.8% from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 1.499 Million units in December of 2024, the most since March 2021. It is the highest number of starts since February 2024, above market expectations of a softer increase to 1.320 Million. Starts for housing with five units or more surged to 418,000, a 58.9% jump from the previous month, while housing with a single unit edged higher by 3.3% to 1.05 Million. Starts for housing with five units or more surged by 58.9% from the previous month to 418,000, while housing with a single unit edged higher by 3.3% to an annualized rate of 1.05 Million. Starts soared in the Northeast (40.2% to 157,000), the Midwest (20% to 204,000), and the South (17.7% to 853,000). On the other hand, starts eased in the West (-0.7% to 285,000).
