The S&P Global Malaysia Manufacturing PMI fell to 49.5 in September 2024 from 49.7 in the prior two months, marking the lowest figure since April. This was also the fourth month of contraction in the manufacturing sector, with output levels being scaled back for four months, although the rate of reduction was modest. Meanwhile, the decline in buying activity accelerated to its steepest pace since March, due to subdued production requirements, delivery delays, and higher logistic and raw material costs. New orders edged closer to stabilization amid the sixth month of increased overseas demand, driven by stronger orders across Southeast Asia. Concurrently, employment rose marginally, expanding for the first time since May, while backlogs of work decreased slightly. Regarding prices, input price inflation softened, and the rate of charge inflation eased to a four-month low. Lastly, sentiment strengthened to its highest level since January, driven by hopes of better demand conditions.
